Wise decision

Yay- I finally upgraded my laptop to 2Gb of RAM.  Now, is that a bit excessive?  Not if you’re running Vista.  I foolishly (I hang my head in shame at the thought of it) upgraded my innocent XP laptop which had 512 Mb of RAM, and submitted it to the masochistic requirements of Vista, which is about 1Gb plus.

How has this benefited my laptop?  Faster loading post-login, ability to run loads of programs with ease, the graphical goodness of the Aero interface (including the ability to use Flip 3D), and also being able to run Windows Sidebar without freezing up the computer.  How much does all this take up?  Roughly 1Gb of RAM, so I’d say 2Gb in a laptop or desktop PC is the sweet spot.

Meanwhile, got Sky installed today, and it just works.  On top of that, it has Sky One which means all is now well with the world.  I mainly watch Sky One for Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis amongst other things, but the main point is I grew up with Stargate (10 years!!) and that is why I was disappointed with Virgin’s response.  Good for the consumer?  Ultimately not.
