Telly Addict

This article had initially been penned a few months ago in the early Spring of 2008 and has been languishing in my drafts section ever since, but I’ve decided to spruce it up, hash, re-hash and finally publish this thing!  So let’s get on with it, shall we?

So…I’ve had the opportunity over the past few months to catch up on some quality TV whilst at Uni and even more now that I’ve been back at home! So, what’s been on my radar so far?  Here’s a brief selection:

Ross Kemp In Afghanistan
Gritty and emotional documentary of what it is actually like for our troops on the ground, fighting over in Afghanistan. A must-watch.

Reaper
American sci-fi comedy with a wicked sense of humour, pardon the pun.  Contains a delicious amount of drama and plot twists.  A great first season!

Skins
The second series of the hectic/surreal/amazing world of Sixth-formers came and went.  I was left wanting more, and from the consistently great episodes shown so far, I have high hopes for series 3.

Black Books
Humour is a dish best served black. Surreal sitcom centring around a nihilistic bookshop owner and his equally crazy assistant.

Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands 2008
Even though this programme has been going for a few years now, I have to admit that this series has been the first series that I’ve watched.  And I’m hooked.  At first, I just watched it for the goodness of ‘The Third Island’ show, but now the main show itself getting very, very interesting.

Warship
A programme on Five that’s actually not some kind of grotesque spectacle and/or soft porn in nature?  Correct; a programme that follows the adventures of the H.M.S. Illustrious sailing to the dangerous waters of the world where our troops are in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Harrier Jump Jets are way cool.

Doctor Who
I couldn’t do a list like this without including the good Doctor himself.  Some people dismiss Doctor Who as crazy/rubbish etc but for me it has a rich mythology, the Doctor is a lovable yet mysterious character, and each episode continues to surprise and delight.  Case in point: Midnight.

So there you have it- I’ve just written a few snippets of what I am watching/have been watching over the past few months.  I beg you to at least check some of this out, it’s decent stuff!  Until next time, adios.
